Here are some stories about the rescue efforts of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Southern California.

Three English Cockers in 2005 were fostered by the Rosenthals.  These full grown dogs were quickly placed into homes and doing well.
"Molly" Molly came to the club, pregnant, in the summer of 2005.  The Neely's whelped the litter of 6 health puppies, and the entire club pitched in to find homes.  We're happy to report that mom and all the puppies, as of their first birthdays, were in fabulous homes and well loved.  The rescuer down under litter included:
  • Jake & Code, who went to a family in the Sacremento area -- a dog for each girl.
  • Miss Bianca & a boy went to a family in Agua Dulce, who had just lost their dog.
  • Joanna went to an area women.
  • Molly & son Bernard went to a family in the Sylmar area, who enjoy Molly's cuddles, watching Bernard jump to amazing heights and catch all kinds of backyard critters.

"Kimo"

Lynda Gall received a call from a local shelter about an ECS scheduled to be put down. Lynda got him to the Neelys Jan 25, 1998; This is what we know about Kimo:
  • Kimo was a 5 year old neutered blue roan male ECS
  • He was purchased in Hawaii; we believe, because he still has dew claws, that he may have originated in Australia.
  • Kimo had a Home Again micro-chipped injected by the shelter and has had a Da2pl cpv
  • He appears to be good with other dogs and children.
  • He was sent to the shelter because the owner was moving from a house to an apartment and therefore could not keep him.
  • The owners are willing to speak to the new parents to provide more information.

Here are some additional tidbits, from my personal observations.

Kimo is happy and normally active, although MUCH calmer than our crew! His weight and appetite are normal. He appears to be used to a one dog home; He was a bit of a loner at the start, although he now seems to want to fit into the pack desperately. (He hasn't quite passed the test yet...it appears I have some snobs in my house, but this rescue thing is kinda new for them too!).

Kimo is eager to please and has a pretty calm disposition. He put up with a bath and good hour of grooming with narry a wimper (Goodness! There really WAS an English Cocker under that "rasta-dog" American Cocker groom job!).

He likes his crate, going there immediately if he feels unsure. He settles there for naps quickly, on the show grounds, in the house and in the car. He's shy about taking treats...very gentle taking them, once he figures out what they are...then scurries off to his crate where our monsters can't take them away. (pretty smart guy!). Don't get the impression that this little guy is shy though...he goes new places without fear and greets strangers with ease. He mastered our condo elevator quickly (looked like a first for him!). He also made the rounds of our entire club membership during our meeting today, almost before we got the lead over his head! Quite a friendly guy!

If you (or your friends) have room for this dear little guy, please contact me at stirling@stirling-ecs.org or Lynda Gall at lynann@juno.com. Thanks in advance for passing this onto interested parties.
